Cash and CarryPosted online: Sunday, December 12, 2004 Fashion designer-cum-gallerist Rohit Gandhi, 34, insists that sold-out openings are not the reason why big artists take him and partner Rahul Khanna, 30, seriously. After their Palette Art Gallery, in Delhi, hosted Bawa’s recent exhibition, it will now show ‘Bombay Boys’, which features 12 artists from Mumbai. And next February they will roll out a stalwarts-only exhibition for which Bawa, Husain, Ram Kumar, Jogen Chowdhury, Akbar Padamsee, KG Subramanyam, Rameshwar Broota, Tyeb Mehta, Krishen Khanna, Jehangir Sabavala and SH Raza have created new works. It's a huge compliment, admits Gandhi, adding, ‘‘The big artists have seen that our first few exhibitions were serious. We got a good mix of people including collectors, other gallery owners, critics, architects and interior designers.'' If there's an artist who'd shy away from that kind of attention, could you please stand up?
