was born in Gujarat and studied at the Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai. He was awarded the J.D. Rockefeller III Fund Fellowship in 1968. His works have been exhibited in the Menton Biennale, France in 1947,the Museum of Modern Art, Oxford, in 1982, the Singapore Art Museum, 1997, and at the Tate Modern, London, 2001. He was awarded the Prix Nationale in Cagne-sur-Mer, in 1974, and received the Kalidas Samman from the Madhya Pradesh State Government in 1988. Tyeb Mehta lives and works in Mumbai.
